Secondary Initial Teacher Training (School Direct)

Whitley Bay High is the lead school in our alliance for applicants who wish to apply for Secondary School Direct places in the North East following the tuition route. School Direct is a way to train as a teacher which is based in schools, delivered by schools, and allows you to learn at the heart of the job, whilst also receiving academic training and support from Newcastle University. Please view the video below to find out more information.

Anyone wishing to teach must complete initial teacher training – ITT. You can complete your Secondary ITT through the Whitley Bay School Direct Teacher Training programme based in the North East of England, with a national reputation for: the quality of its Teaching and Learning; its innovative and rigorous training and the exceptional levels of support for emerging teachers. Our programme means you will be in the classroom from day 1, learning first-hand the knowledge and skills needed to become an outstanding teacher. We work in conjunction with Newcastle University and on successful completion of the programme you will be awarded either a Professional Graduate Certificate (Level 6) in Education or a PGCE (Level 7) with qualified teacher status (QTS.)
